Umm…
a) Mycroft’s rejected both of them because he’s asexual or with Jim etc. and on Valentines Day Sherlock and Lestrade both end up burying their sorrows in cold cases at the Yard but hey it’s a tall, egotistical, emotionally stunted genius and hey it’s another one of my handsome babysitters and yeah. Sex.
b) (Sherlock and Greg aren’t together.) They’re really competitive about Mycroft and that’s why Mycroft never shows up around Greg and every time Mycroft gives Sherlock a case Sherlock waits for Greg to call with another one so he can tell him all about the case he *just* got from his brother. Jim, of course, desperately wants to show them what’s what: ‘Oh come on, Mycroft. Pleeaase. I’d be so quick. Just pull them off the streets, rattle them around a bit, and then maybe kiss you while pointing a gun at them. Nobody would have to get hurt.’
c) After Reichenbach Lestrade thinks that he and Mycroft should be having sad both-our-boyfriends-died sex and Mycroft’s just sort of ‘This was supposed to be a secret but I don’t want my presumed dead boyfriend to murder you so…’
d) Sherlock is sure Mycroft’s new boyfriend is Moriarty in a disguise, he’s sure he has malicious intent, and he’s sure Mycroft can’t know. But he has to do more investigating because it’s never a good idea to present a half-cooked theory to Mycroft. Especially not when said theory expresses an insult to Mycroft’s observational skills and implies prying in his private life. John hates Mycroft and of course wouldn’t want to dedicate so much of his time to his well-being, but Lestrade most certainly does NOT hate Mycroft so he’s recruited instead. The mission’s equal parts Rescue Mycroft, Save England, and Woo Mycroft. But then they fall for each other.
